Is it wrong for a boy to do ballet?

Question

Is it wrong for a boy to do ballet?
I have a big dilemma, i really want to start taking ballet lessons, but im just so worried that my dad would see me as a poof as hes really into all the sports and thinks that football and rugby are for boys and that ballet is for girls. So what do you recommend is the best way to go about convincing him? I know that my mum will be fine with it.

Answer

Of course there is nothing wrong with it. And yes, there is a stereotype of all male dancers being gay. The truth is that there are many who are, but there are also many who arent. Who says you have to broadcast it to all your friends? Those quotmalequot sports are guys rolling around and in rugby which is like American football I think, they tackle each other. That sounds pretty gay to me. What about ballet? Let see you take class with fit girls who hardly wear any clothing and you get to touch them when you partner on the waist or even the thighs. Hmmm doesnt sound too gay to me. If friends give you a hard time, show them this video. httpwww.youtube.comwatch?vucUlFsWwa Even though the men dont wear pink pointe shoes, it does make a valid point. If you dad thinks any activity can make a person gay he is very mistaken. You are born into your sexual orientation and it is not something that a person can choose.br A guy to mention is the late Patrick Swazey. He was a classically trained ballet dancer. Definitely not gay.
