Is it really a necessity to read the Harry Potter books?

Is it a necessity? As in, are they necessary to sustain life and you will die if you dont read them? No. You can live a very long, happily fulfilled life if you dont read the Harry Potter books. Now, water...its a necessity to drink water. Oh, and food, dont forget to eat, without food you will die. But, Harry Potter books are totally optional...like a fun extra credit assignment.
